The subject of the Postgraduate Programme “Communication” is
the study, research and provision of postgraduate education in the fields of Communication, with two specializations:
A. Political and Public Communication
B. Cultural Management and Communication
The purpose of the Postgraduate Programme is to cultivate and promote scientific knowledge in the fields of Communication, as well as to develop research in the scientific fields of the two specializations. It concerns special thematic units of the cognitive subjects of the first cycle of studies, based on which postgraduate students acquire specialized training in order to be able to meet the existing and anticipated social and developmental needs of the labor market in the field of political and public communication, as well as in the fields of cultural management.
The specific objectives of the specializations are to provide education and specialized knowledge, both theoretical and practical, on the interaction of communication and culture, communication research methods and the practice of communication and cultural policy, with the aim of training executives for employment in communication and cultural organizations in the public and private sectors, in political parties and political organizations, in non-governmental organizations, in mass media and the broader audiovisual industry, in local government and regional development institutions, in cultural and educational institutions, in public opinion research and advertising bodies. The possibility of internships for postgraduate students in matters of their specialization, which may form part of the educational process in this Programme, is also aimed at these. Furthermore, the aim of both specializations is to develop the critical and research skills required for postgraduate studies and further research activity in the fields of Communication. The Program seeks, on the one hand, to provide postgraduate students with solid foundations, modern knowledge, methods and basic principles, which will enable them to continuously educate, improve and create in a spirit of innovation, with the application of modern technologies, and on the other hand, to cultivate in students the critical and creative skills required for a socially and ethically responsible professional activity.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the specialization Political and Public Communication upon completion of their studies will be able to
• apply theory in the main areas of applied communication (Public and Social Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, Political Communication, Health and Science Communication)
• conduct quantitative and qualitative research in the field of communication
• analyze and evaluate communication within the framework of the political process
• develop communication strategies for information and persuasion with the aim of serving the public interest (on issues such as education, health, the environment, social rights, etc.)
• utilize digital media for the development of communication in the service of politics and the public sphere
Graduates of the specialization Cultural Management and Communication upon completion of their studies will be able to
• apply communication theory in the field of culture and cultural management
• conduct quantitative and qualitative research in the communication of organizations communication and culture
• develop and implement communication and cultural policy
• understand and analyze the management and marketing of communication and cultural organizations
• utilize digital media to develop communication in the service of culture
