The core infrastructure of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, including classrooms, library, computer labs, and specialized laboratories, will be utilized. Additionally, library/reading room spaces are utilized for lectures, laboratory courses, meetings/sessions, and research collaborations related to assignments and theses.
Classrooms
The teaching needs are met in the classrooms of the department’s main building. These spaces, recently renovated, accommodate between 25 and 70 people, ensuring effective physical communication and collaboration between instructors and students while avoiding technical issues typical in larger venues (e.g., acoustics problems, audiovisual challenges, etc.).
All classrooms are equipped with laptops (connected to the internet), electronic projectors, and sufficient audio reproduction systems. WiFi access (Eduroam) is also available, allowing students to connect using their own devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops), which can be utilized during teaching and educational activities. Hybrid learning methods are supported in all classrooms, combining in-person teaching with live remote participation via teleconferencing. This setup facilitates activities involving remote guests/participants or various dialogic and collaborative activities within the classroom.
Laboratories
Two specialized laboratory spaces are available:
▪ The Laboratory of IT Applications in Mass Media: Features a computer lab with 15 workstations, accommodating up to 25 people.
▪ The Electronic Media Laboratory: Includes two smaller spaces, each capable of hosting 10-15 people with corresponding workstations. Additionally, it provides two fully equipped studios for audio and audiovisual production, post-production, and streaming.
These spaces are suitable for courses and workshops requiring the use of computer systems or specialized software. They are also ideal for technology-oriented subjects (e.g., multimedia, web journalism, data journalism, radio and television production, and live streaming) as well as interdisciplinary academic activities involving teaching, innovation, research, communication, and showcasing specific projects.
Library
The Programme’s infrastructure includes access to the Departmental Library and the Central Library (and Reading Room) of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). Particularly significant for postgraduate programs is online access to international bibliographic databases and repositories. Students are also granted institutional email accounts, which provide access to additional services such as cloud storage, software resources, hosting of personal webpages, and remote access to specialized scientific journal databases and other research repositories.
