Students who have successfully passed the mandatory courses of the first semester and at least four (4) elective courses can join the process of conducting their master’s thesis at the beginning of the third semester. The master’s thesis may be an individual or a group project and may be carried out – in addition to the usual way – through participation in a research project, through practical work in a cooperating institution under the conditions and procedures of an internship, through the elaboration of a specially designed project or through a combination of the above. The master’s thesis is expected to be written in Greek. Writing the master’s thesis in another language is possible with the approval of the Coordinating Committee after a justified recommendation by the supervisor. The evaluation and approval of the master’s thesis is based on the following criteria:
a) The relevance of the topic and the content to the subject of the specialization the student attended.
b) The scientific quality and completeness, i.e. the positioning and scientific and/or technical documentation, but also the clarity of the formulation of the objectives in relation to recent developments as identified in international literature or the practice of implementing similar projects, the design, organising and execution of the methodological approach of research or production, the processing, interpretation and critical evaluation of the results or the final project, the drawing of conclusions and the formulation of justified suggestions for further study, research or practical implementation.
(c) The excellence of the writing of the work (presentation of text and diagrams, coherence of the text, correct use of language and scientific terminology, correct citation of references and references). In the case of audiovisual content, the technical and aesthetic excellence of the work will also be assessed.
d) The suggested length of the master’s thesis shall be 20,000 words for projects to which this provision applies (e.g. bibliographical and empirical research, theoretical analysis, etc.), unless otherwise specified by the supervor, based on the type of project.
For the evaluation of the master’s thesis , the excellence of the oral presentation (appearance and stucture of the presentation, fluency, adherence to time limits, response to the examiners’ questions) is also taken into account, while in the case of a master’s thesis completed through an internship in a partner institution, student performance in the internship should also be taken into account.
