Scientific and Research Interests: Dr Kenterelidou’s academic interests center on Public and Political Communication, with a focus on Strategic Communication, Public Relations, Participation and Development Communication. Her research explores diverse fields including development and social change, civic engagement, democratization and elections, crisis and conflict communication, journalism and media, environmental and health communication, human rights, tourism and travel communication, and mass communication research methodologies.
Professional Experience: Dr Kenterelidou teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in both Greek and English at institutions in Greece and abroad. Her teaching portfolio includes • Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR) – Development Journalism; Public Communication Campaign Design and Analysis; Public Relations; Communication and Contemporary Management, • Hellenic Open University (GR) – Cultural Communication, • Open University of Cyprus (CY) – Strategic Communication, • International summer schools and programs including Erasmus+ and Paideia – Communication for Development and Social Change, Environmental Journalism and Communication, and Travel Journalism and Communication.
She co-developed the award-winning English-language Open Online Course (MOOC) “Travel Journalism, Communication and Social Media” at AUTh, which was recognized as one of the top courses among over 3.500 courses across Greek higher education institutions (22 universities and 15 higher technological education institutes) (2015).
Beyond academia, Dr Kenterelidou is a certified adult educator/trainer in the non-formal and vocational education in public and political communication, delivering training through national and international institutions (National Centre for Public Administration-GR, Cyprus Academy of Public Administration-CY, Interbalkan Institute of Public Administration-GR, BG, MK, AL, and the Swedish Mission Council-SE).
She served as a Seconded National Expert (SNE) in Communication at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) (2021-2024), contributing to the Strategic Communication Taskforce (STRATCOM), the Social Media and Visual Communication Unit, and Political Communication Strategy (Strategy Cell) (for public-political-institutional-crisis communication).
She is also a recognized expert for the European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation (REA, Horizon/MSCA), DG COMM, EACEA, and national agencies including EPOS (BE), the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) (GR), EKKE (GR), and the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (CY).
A national research collaborator for the European Communication Monitor (ECM)—the world’s largest transnational study on strategic communication—she works in collaboration with EUPRERA, EACD, and Communication Director magazine.
She is an accredited Election Observer for OSCE/ODIHR and the European Union, and serves as a UN volunteer supporting peacebuilding, development, and electoral assistance missions. She is also active in international cooperation through the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Development Aid (Hellenic Aid) (GR).
Scientific Work: Dr Kenterelidou has published in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. Her academic work includes a research monograph, co-edited volumes, numerous chapters and refereed papers. Her work is cited internationally, and she serves as an independent reviewer for high-impact scientific venues such as World Journalism Education Congress (UNESCO/JERAA), Journal of Communication, Public Opinion Quarterly, Journal of Media and Communication Studies, ECREA Political Communication and Journalism Studies Conferences. She is also a board member of the Journal of Mass Communication and Journalism. Dr Kenterelidou has participated in numerous EU-funded and international research projects including GEJI – Global Environmental Journalism Initiative (Erasmus Mundus Europe-Oceania-Canada), Youth for Youth Workers (Erasmus+/Yoth), COASTAL PRO – Nautilus – Meltemi (EASME-EMFF). She has served on the scientific and organizing committees of national and international conferences, including acting as master of ceremonies for the conferment of the Doctorate Honoris Causa to Professor Eleni Glykatzi-Arveler at AUTh (2006). Some of her affiliations with professional organisation as an active member are: European Communication Research and Education Association – ECREA, International Association for Media and Communication Research – IAMCR, European Journalism Training Association – EJTA, European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA), and Economic Chamber of Greece.
